Biography

 

​Kah-Wee ANG is a tenured Associate Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering and a Director of the Microelectronics Technologies and Devices Area at the National University of Singapore. In addition, he holds the position of Deputy Director at E6 NanoFab, a micro-nanofabrication research center. Concurrently, he has been appointed to the Faculty Promotion & Tenure Committee for the College of Design and Engineering, and as the Deputy Chairman of the Department Safety Committee. He also holds a joint appointment as a Principal Scientist with the Institute of Materials Research and Engineering (IMRE), A*STAR. Prior to joining NUS, he worked as a manager at SEMATECH, a semiconductor manufacturing consortium in the United States. At SEMATECH, he led a team to develop advanced CMOS manufacturing technology for major semiconductor foundries in the United States, Taiwan and Korea. For his exceptional work, he was awarded the SEMATECH Corporate Excellence Award, which recognized his outstanding contributions to advancing technology development. 

 

Apart from his academic and industry contributions, he has also made notable contributions to the scientific community. He currently serves as an Editorial Board Member of Scientific Reports, a journal of Nature Research, and as an Associate Editor of Nano Select, a publication by WILEY. In addition to his editorial roles, he has served on the Executive, Steering, and Technical Program Committees of multiple international conferences. Recognized as an expert in his field, he regularly peer-reviews papers for top-tier journals, including Nature, Nature Electronics, Nature Nanotechnology, Nature Materials, Nature Communications, and Advanced Materials.

 

As a Lead Principal Investigator, he is currently spearheading multiple research programs focused on nanoelectronics and nanotechnology. His scholarly contributions are extensive with over 200 publications in reputable journals and conferences, including 45 invited/keynote talks, 10 US/SG patents, and 4 book chapters.  His papers have been ranked among the highly cited articles by Clarivate Analytics, Web of Science in 2020, 2021 and 2022, as well as the top downloaded papers in 2018-2019 and the most accessed articles in 2018 and 2020-2022, respectively.  One of his invited articles, published in Applied Physics Reviews, was also featured by the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS).  His group's efforts were further recognized with the Best Demo Paper Award at the 2019 Symposium on VLSI Technology, a flagship conference for reporting breakthrough in semiconductor technology. In addition, his contributions to the field have been recognized by his inclusion in the list of the world's top 2% scientists identified by Stanford University for 3 consecutive years in 2021, 2022, and 2023.

In 2010, he was honored with the President's Technology Award, the highest national recognition for exceptional research scientists and engineers who have made significant contributions to science and technology. He has also received multiple prestigious awards in recognition of his research achievements, including the IEEE Paul Rappaport Award in 2008 for publishing the best paper in IEEE Transactions on Electron Devices, and the IEEE Electron Devices Society Graduate Fellowship Award in 2007 for demonstrating significant ability to conduct independent research in the field of electron devices and a proven record of academic excellence. Additionally, he won the inaugural TSMC Outstanding Student Research Gold Award in 2007 for his outstanding graduate research in electronic device and process technologies. He has also received several scholarships, including the A*STAR Graduate Scholarship Award, the Singapore-MIT Alliance Scholarship Award, the University Engineering Scholarship Award, the Chartered Skills Pipeline Program Scholarship Award, and the Mobil Scholarship Award. In recognition of his outstanding accomplishment in silicon photonics technology, he has been awarded the A*STAR IME Excellence Award three times in 2008, 2009 & 2010, and the Chartered Recognition Award in 2002. Furthermore, he has received multiple gold medals and book prizes in his academic pursuits.
